LABOUR MARKET INFORMATION

Over the last twenty years, the labour market and industry skills needs have undergone unprecedented change as a result of a wide range of factors including globalisation, technological change and increased involvement of women in work.

Industry needs readily accessible, industry specific, forward looking labour market and skills needs data.

Ready access to this information facilitates effective industry planning and the implementation of strategies to address workforce skills needs.

The Australian Government will improve the quality of national labour market and skills information.

The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) produces a range of quality data resources that will contribute to a national, co-ordinated data package.

The DEWR Job Outlook You are now leaving the Getatrade website provides comprehensive information on job prospects for around 400 occupations that is used by employment and recruitment services, careers advisers, jobseekers, job changers, school leavers and those exploring future careers.

DEWR's Skills Shortage Lists provide detail on jobs supply and demand by state, territory and region.

For more information on labour market information visit the Skills Australia You are now leaving the Getatrade website and Australian Apprenticeships Training Information Service You are now leaving the Getatrade website.

What's Happening with the Job Market?

The Department of Education, Science and Training is working with DEWR and the industry - government skills outlook working group to look more closely at labour market projections to help us understand why and where industry skill shortages occur.  A website providing quality nationally consistent skills needs and labour market data is being developed.
